Throwing the perfect movie night can be tricky; of course, your best friend will be there, but what movie to watch when you all have different movie tastes and what to eat? These are the eternal questions we ask ourselves when we want to throw a movie night with our friends. Sometimes, we focus on the little things too much and forget that it’s not about the journey but the friends we make along the way.
No, but for real, something the movie itself doesn’t really have to matter because it is an excuse for you and your friends to meet up, spend time together ad get drunk. So buckle up, and let’s get into this blog on how to throw the perfect movie night.
Coziness is key
Get those fuzzy blankets out because this is the time for them to shine; for me, a perfect the ideal movie night is a coziness night-in with my friends, gossiping and watching one of our go-to movies. Jeans aren’t made for movie night, so throw your denim away and slip into your favorite pair of sweat pants.
This isn’t meant to be a glamorous evening; it is a night to get drunk and spend time together with your friends under the guise of watching a movie. No, but seriously, no need to complicate things, dim the lights, light a candle or two and kick back and relax in the company of your chosen family! To quote Anne Taylor:
“For my own family, I would always choose the makeshift, surrogate family formed by various characters unrelated by blood.”
So, just have a nice time with your chosen family, and no need to stress over the little things, because most of them are there for you and the movie is an ulterior motive to spend time with you. So, what you wear doesn’t really matter and this is why you should opt for your most comfortable clothes because you are most likely than not going to get drunk in them and fall asleep in the same pair of cloth. Consider it a win-win situation.
Choice of movie
It is dealer’s choice when it comes to movie night for my friends and me, whoever is throwing the movie night has free reign on which movie we get to watch, and if you complain about it, you have to take a shot, this is how you make your average movie night fun, make a drinking game out of it.
But when in doubt, go for the classics: Pretty Woman, The notebook, Shelter, Silent of the Lamb will always do the trick. Personally, I like to put foreign movies that I’m currently obsessed with and force my friends to watch them with me; if you want a movie rec, then you ought to watch Your Name Engraved Herein, and my favorite quote from the movie is:
“So you can like girls, but I can’t like boys?
Is your love bigger than the love I give?
Tell me. What’s the difference between your love and mine? Tell me the difference!”
Get the tissues ready because it will be a cry feast. Remember, make it fun, make a drinking game out of it, and a quiz afterward. This is what my friends and I do every Friday evening after a hard week at work, and it is our way to relax and forget about our hectic weeks.
Snacks make or break a movie night.
Popcorn is a must, and if you disagree, you can get out of here because we stand popcorn in this house! Get creative with the popcorn flavoring; butter is great and all, but it gets boring; try adding some spices to it, add a bit of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chill flakes, and the everything bagel seasoning, and voila, you’ve elevated your popcorn game.
To go with the current trend, get a charcuterie board, you can be as basic with it with the typical cured meat and cheeses, or you can add your own spin to it and have an Indian sweets charcuterie board or even a dipping board, let you’ve creative juices run free with this part of the evening.
